Ce Credits for Insurance License
Different types of insurance licenses exist for each state – Life/Health, Insurance Adjuster, Personal Lines, Property/Liability and Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care, among others. While acquiring ce credit for insurance agents and brokers are legally required, be aware that continuing education can benefit you because not only does it provide you with new knowledge in the industry, it also gives you an edge over the competition.
Every insurance agent or broker should complete a minimum of 12 hours of ce credits for each license. As such, if you have Personal Lines and an Insurance Adjuster license, then you’ll have to complete 18 hours of continuing education credits. Of course, the more credits you have to complete, the higher priced a course would be.
You can complete your ce courses online (home study) and through live seminars. If your office is providing you with the continuing education as part of your incentives, then the seminar courses may be available at your office. However, most states hold their own seminars with respective ce credits, depending on the topics covered. Some courses can provide up to 8 ce credit per day for several days with no tests required for certification.
If you don’t have time to go down to a seminar center and get ce credits for insurance, you have the option of completing homestudy courses that you could work on in the comfort of your home and would fit into your schedule perfectly. While home study is not recommended for people with a high level of self-discipline since you’ll be responsible for studying on your own pace, it is the best option for professionals who can’t seem to balance their job with continuing education.
The good thing about completing ce credits online is you simply have to follow several steps – enroll in one of the reputable companies that offer insurance continuing education for your state, download the book that complements the courses you need in completing the credits and study the book. Once you’re ready, go back online and take the test. Once you pass the exam, you can request for a certificate of completion, which you need to submit to your state’s insurance department. If you still need more credits, go back online and choose another course, which is suitable for your profession.
Be aware that the price of every course you take, may it be online or in seminars, vary largely on the company that provides the course, the state you’re in and the number of ce credit for insurance acquired and the courses taken. To ensure you’re taking the right CE programs, check the requirements with your state and learn about the needed courses before signing up for an online course or seminar.
